In the year 2022, there was a significant increase in the number of businesses that submitted trademark applications for digital currencies, nonfungible tokens (NFTs), and metaverse-related virtual goods and services.
According to data compiled by licenced trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis, the number of trademark applications filed for digital currencies as well as their related goods and services has reached 4,708 as of the end of October 2022, surpassing the total number of applications filed in 2021. This figure was derived from the number of applications filed for digital currencies as well as their related goods and services as of the end of October 2022. (3,547).
The number of trademark applications submitted for the metaverse and the virtual goods and services that are associated with it skyrocketed to 4,997 from the previous year's total of 1,890 submissions.
Despite the obstacles that have been placed in the ecosystem's path toward becoming fully functional, it would appear that there is a large demand for the metaverse and the products that are associated with it.
Despite a documented decrease in the number of trading and sales involving NFTs, there is still a strong indication that more people want to use this technology.
The overall number of trademark applications for NFTs and products linked to them climbed from 2,142 in 2021 to 6,855 as of October 2022, as indicated by the information provided by Kondoudis.
